Grow you’re own sponges! Luffa gourd grow best if trellised so their long, heavy fruits can grow straight for maximum sponge production. Allow them to cure on the plants for as long a possible, but be sure to harvest all fruits before the first hard frost. Luffas are ready when the skin feels leathery and you can hear the seeds rattle inside. Simply peel the skin off, shake the seeds out and voila! A natural sponge.
